Shields & Coats of Arms

In preparation for our Medieval Pageant a lot of children in school made shields.

Here are Year 4 hard at work on theirs.

You can also see some of the hats that Year 4 have made in preparation for the Medieval Pageant.

Finished! In the display behind the

children are some Coats of Arms

      they designed and painted.

As part of their topic about

Medieval York, Year 4

looked at Heraldry and

designed their own

Coats of Arms using

a computer programme.

They then scaled them up

and produced these fantastic

painted versions.

These are the shields made by

Year 5. They researched the different shapes that are found on shields as well

as the meanings of the different symbols.

They chose images to put on their shields that reflected their own character

or family.

Year 6 created some magnificent Medieval Coats of Arms.

They first made a shield which was mounted on card.

Images were added of things that they felt reflected their individual personality.

Finally they researched Latin Mottos that were connected to their family name.
