Roman Slave Trader Gaiius Fortunatus

Year 5 and 6 were visited by slave trader Gaiius Fortunatus. He told his slaves

(Year 5 and 6) about all the different jobs the slaves did in the time of Ancient Rome.

The kitchen slaves were told

about preparing olives and

about a very smelly fish sauce

made with rotting fish.

The artistic slaves made a

clay head and a mosaic.

Personal slaves had to help their master

get dressed.

Some slaves became soldiers and, if they survived for 25 years, they became

free men.

After a fun afternoon, we felt we had learnt a lot about slavery in Roman times.
